On May 20th 2025, Kettering Health announced a cyber attack and data breach on they network. A ransomware group known as Interlock infiltrated the network, stealing over 700,000 files from more than 20,000 folders. The stolen data includes names, dates of birth, social security numbers, health insurance, and financial information. 

The attack impacted systems, including phones, scheduling tools and more. This delayed, denied and impacted the care that many people need. Appointments, treatments and time-sensitive care were all affected. Many patients had to try to go elsewhere for care and ran into various issues. 

"A relatively small subset of its data was accessed," said Kettering Health CEO Mike Gentry. He addressed employees in a letter, expressing uncertainty about the hackers' identity but suggesting they might be based outside the country. He assured that once the analysis was complete, those affected would be be notified.

Kettering Health is one of Ohio's largest medical networks with 14 medical centers and dozens of clinics, mostly in the Dayton area.

The lawsuit says patients who need chemotherapy, prescriptions, physical therapy and other treatments have had difficulty receiving those treatments and appointments following the cyberattack. This is a major issue because the hospital should have had immediate solutions for these patients.
